How To Elevate Your Denim Shorts

Now that it is springtime, I started going through some of my spring and summer clothes and figuring out what I should keep or potentially donate. A good spring cleaning in my closet was much needed. I packed some of my winter clothing up and took out my spring and summer clothes. During this, I came across a pair of bermuda style denim shorts that I would wear all the time in past summers. These shorts are quite distressed but so comfortable. I would pair them with a cute blouse, or a simple t-shirt similar to the pictures above. However, coming across these shorts inspired me to create a more elevated look with them. Here is how you can elevate your denim shorts for a more dressed up look.

Add A Vest

Vests have been having such a moment these days. I could not wait to purchase one for this spring and summer. Being pregnant last summer totally prevented me from trying out the trend. So this summer I will be wearing mine all the time. This vest is linen and is so lightweight, which is great for the warmer months ahead. Adding the vest gives the distressed denim a more dressed up look. I love the combination of the white vest with the distressed denim. It is still casual, but slightly more elevated.

Accessorize

To really elevate your denim shorts and take it from running errands to hitting a winery or lunch date, add some accessories. This vintage wicker purse is great for the spring and summer. I love how the brown tones in the bag pick up the tan buttons on the vest. I also added a pair of white, strappy heels to the look.

Additionally, add jewelry to your outfit. I chose two necklaces but you can add more to really stack them up. I chose a pearl detailed necklace which complimented the color of my vest and a gold initial necklace with the initial of my daughter’s name. Adding a little sparkle to your look with accessories really dresses it up.

Throw On A Blazer

Whenever you think you might be underdressed for an outing, always add a blazer. Blazers are honestly the fastest way to elevate any look to make your outfit more formal. Pairing a beige oversized blazer with the vest and distressed denim gives a very cool vibe. Don’t be afraid to mix more formal and structural pieces with relaxed, casual styles. The mix of the two makes your outfit stylish. This blazer really completes the look and helps tie in some beige tones from the buttons on my vest and my brown wicker bag.
