How To Style Your Mini Skirts For Fall
During the fall months you can expect to step outside and feel the crisp, chilly air. However, you can also expect occasional warm days. As I am currently writing this I looked on my weather app and it shows that today’s high will be 80 degrees, but it is currently 54 degrees outside. This is what brings me to this post… how to dress for this in-between weather we are experiencing. Sometimes I feel a bit confused on how I should dress these days since the mornings start off quite chilly but can get warmer as the day goes on. One great piece you can wear all summer long and carry into the chillier months is a mini skirt. I thought I’d share how to style your mini skirts for fall. Here are some ways I style my skirts that keep me comfortable no matter how chilly or hot it is outside.
Start With A Light Base
Start by pairing your mini skirt with a light base. A great option is something similar to the top I am wearing below, a classic button down shirt. You could do a cotton button down shirt like mine or even a linen option for a lighter base. You can easily roll your sleeves up or leave a few buttons unbuttoned as it gets warmer outside.

Shop similar options below by clicking on the images, I tend to size up on button down shirts for a more oversized and boyfriend style fit.
Add A Layer
Next up, add layers. Layers are what will help transition your outfit if temperatures during the day start to rise or drop. Opt for an oversized knit. An oversized fit helps to balance out the mini skirt. I have learned that if I am showing my legs and exposing them to the weather outside, then I am most comfortable with covering up my upper body and adding layers to keep me warm.
There are many styles and fabrics of sweaters. A classic v-neck cut works well or even a button down wool or cashmere option. If temperatures start to rise as the day goes on, you can easily take your knit off and wear it over your shoulders for a preppy and classic look.

This oversized knit is a great option. If you rather not shop for one, have a look in your boyfriend’s or husband’s closet. He might have the perfect option.
Add In Fall Colors And Heavier Fabrics

Since this is a fall look, add in pops of fall colors. My outfit is very neutral so adding a bag that has burgundy, plum and browns is what makes this outfit feel more appropriate for fall.
For the fall and winter months I always go with accessories that are made with leather or suede. Below are two great options to consider.
Ditch The Sandals
Since summer is over, I recommend packing up the open toe sandals. Even when the high says 80 degrees, I always stick with a closed toe shoe. You don’t have to wear a heavy boot, but pick an option that still exposes some of your feet and ankles. I love ballet flats, but a suede loafer works just as well.

Below are two great options, I am obsessed with the pointed toe slingback. I completed my look with gold earrings. You can shop the exact ones I am wearing below.
