How to Wear a Trench Coat all Winter Long

If you live in the Northeast like me, you may have noticed that this winter has been more mild than usual. In past winters, I am usually bundled up in a heavy puffer coat when heading outdoors. However, this winter I have been getting more use from one of my favorite pieces, my trench coat. Trench coats are usually most popular in the spring and fall months, but this year I have been rocking it all winter. Here is how to wear a trench all winter long. I have created three looks wearing my trench coat. I hope this helps inspire you to wear your trench coat more often this winter season. Date Night

The Outfit

The key to wearing a trench coat during the winter time is adding layers and choosing heavier fabrics. For a date night inspired look, I chose a black, long sleeve knit turtleneck dress, and thigh high suede boots. I opted for all black to dress up the trench coat.

Accessories

For my accessories, I paired my dress with a black beret (which added warmth) and a suede printed Jacquemus bag. My look was quite simple so I wanted to add in an accessory with a print.The suede in my bag and boots add additional warmth, but also gives the trench coat a winter feel. You can easily add some black sheer tights under the boots for an added layer.

Heading to the Office

The Outfit

This look is perfect for heading into the office. I paired my trench coat with a thick, beige turtleneck sweater and pleated trousers. Again, the key to wearing a trench coat all winter long is adding layers. You can easily add a tank top under the sweater for extra warmth if needed.

The Accessories

I wanted to add in more shades of brown to my look with the help of accessories. My outfit is very monotone so to break it up a bit I opted for a brown leather belt, a brown leather Dooney & Bourke satchel bag, and a thick printed scarf. The accessories really completed the look and made the overall appearance of the outfit more interesting.

Casual Daytime Look

The Outfit

For a casual daytime look, I paired my trench coat with a lace turtleneck, added a tank top underneath, and jeans. What is great about a trench coat is you can easily make your outfit look more stylish by buttoning it up.

The Accessories

For my accessories, I chose a fluffy beige bucket hat that I really love. The style of the hat is very on trend at the moment and the fabric really keeps me warm. I also decided to wear my Chloé cross body bag, suede heeled boots and suede mittens. It never hurts to add extra accessories like hats, gloves or scarves to your look to add extra warmth without bulking up your outfit.
