How to Style a Statement Blazer

Have you ever come across a piece of clothing that inspired you to get dressed up, leave the house and have a night out? This blazer from Zara gives me that exact feeling. I thought I’d share a post on how to style a statement blazer. I want to share how I would style this blazer for both a dressed up night version and a more casual daytime look.
Now, I should say I have never worn this blazer before (hence the tag) as I purchased this blazer last year, right before I got pregnant, and had it stored away in my pre-baby clothing bin. Here are some tips to help you style a statement blazer. Since most of my pieces have been in my wardrobe for years, I included links to similar items that you can check out to create a similar look.
Dressed up Version
I wanted to keep the blazer the main focus of the look since it is the statement piece. A statement piece of clothing is what you want people to notice first about your entire outfit. So whether you are styling a bold blazer, knit, or skirt, remember to keep the rest of your outfit a bit more toned down to really put emphasis on your statement piece.
For a more formal look, I paired the blazer with a pair of faux leather, loose fitting trousers (that I have had for years) and a lace blouse. I opted for loose fitting trousers since the blazer is more structured. Additionally, I chose all black for the rest of the look since the blazer brings in a pattern.
Add Jewelry
Don’t be afraid to add in some jewelry to your look. I chose a gold braided chain necklace and a fun pair of earrings with beaded detail. I decided on gold to pick up the gold buttons on the blazer. Incorporating the same tone metals with jewelry or accessories helps an outfit flow together and feel consistent.
Accessories
To complete the look, I added some accessories. I chose a black belt with a gold buckle which again picked up the metals in the blazer and my jewelry.
I chose a pair of girly heels to really dress up the look. These are one of my favorite pair of heels. They add a feminine touch to my look since they have a jeweled bow.
Finally, a bag. I chose a black dumpling style bag that I can also carry as a clutch. Again, all my accessories are black to keep the attention on the blazer.
Daytime Version
This look here is something I usually wear on my weekend outings with my husband and daughter. Perfect for a brunch with the family or shopping in town.
The blazer alone is more on the formal side, so for a more casual look I paired it with a light wash denim. Lighter wash denim always gives a more casual and relaxed feel to a look rather than dark denim. I also switched the blouse out that had lace detail for a simple silk tank.
Accessories
I chose to add warmer tones for my accessories for my daytime look. Whenever I am trying to dress down a look I always pick brown shades over blacks. I adore my brown leather Chloé bag so I always wear it whenever I have the opportunity. The gold buckle details on the bag again pick up the buttons on the blazer.
For shoes I decided on a tan suede loafer. I highly reccommend adding a loafer into your wardrobe if you do not already own a pair. They are so comfortable and great for running around in. They really are a great combination of comfort and style.
For my earrings I chose a smaller pair that are gold with a hanging pearl. I love how the gold is still complimenting the details on the blazer and my bag, and the pearl picks up the cream shade in my plaid blazer.
I hope this post inspires you to wear your statement blazer or a statement piece of clothing for your next outing. Comment below if you found these tips helpful.

Love your blog Brooke! This outfit looks amazing, I’m always intimidated by wearing blazers because they come off so “business-like” and you showed me how else you can style it to fit in with everyday occasions!

What an inspiration! I actually pulled out one of my blazers today and a pair of shoes that are close to a loafer look and I actually looked and felt put together. I wore my ankle jeans with it for a casual, confident look. Thank you😊
